The Cedar Vale–Dexter Spartan Pride Band was recently featured in The Prairie Star newspaper for its role in bringing unity and tradition to the community through music. The article, written by Jenny Diveley and titled “The sounds of a small high school band may be what we need for unity,” highlights the band’s creation of a new fight song, “Here Come the Spartans!”

Under the direction of Mr. Chris Shockley, the Cedar Vale band worked to blend elements from both schools’ original fight songs, creating a composition that represents teamwork, pride, and the spirit of the Spartan community. The project was supported by the newly formed Spartan Booster Club, which made the development of a unified fight song a top priority last year.

The Prairie Star article commends the efforts of the students, staff, and community members who contributed to the project, noting that the new song reflects the success and collaboration that have defined the Cedar Vale–Dexter co-op.

“The sound of the Spartan Pride Band is a reminder that small towns can achieve big things when they work together,” the article states.

The band unveiled its new song under the Friday night lights earlier this fall, and the performance has already become a symbol of pride for both schools.

As the program continues to grow, Cedar Vale Schools look forward to even greater collaboration between the two districts. We can’t wait to hear Dexter’s band join us in performing the new fight song!
