2023 Senior Class Spot light: JoRey Calvert, Class of 2023 Salutatorian
JoRey is the “daughter” of Barry and Freda Speer. Her activities included Volleyball, Basketball, Cheer, Yearbook, Math Team, STUCO, NHS, student elementary aide program, dual credit program.
INTERVIEW:
What year did you begin school at CVS?
JoRey: I came 7th grade.
What are your next steps?
JoRey: I am going to attend college at Cowley County Community College and get my associates degree in business and administration.
Who is someone special that you would like to give a shoutout?
JoRey: Mrs. Burdette because she pushed me to be my better self and didn’t give up on me.
What is your favorite school memory?
JoRey: When we all went on our 8th grade trip and went to All Star Sports and the Mall in Wichita, I liked hanging out with my classmates and getting closer to them.
What are you most excited for next?
JoRey: To meet new people and expand my horizons and to learn more.
What are your views on success?
JoRey: Success is not giving up when things get hard and to reach for your goals
Do you have any advice for those entering high school?
JoRey: Do not get behind, stay caught up on your work and make the best of High School.
How strict would you say that your parents were during high school?
JoRey: Barry and Freda have set boundaries to make sure I don’t fail but give me space
Who Was Your Favorite Teacher?
JoRey: Mrs. Massey, I love Mrs. Massey, she made me feel very welcomed, always had a smile on her face and was just so nice
What Was Your Favorite Toy Growing Up?
JoRey: I loved my Barbie doll and loved imagining things, I was that kid that played with my doll all the time.
What is the best advice you’ve received?
JoRey: When Mrs. Burdette said to take things one step at a time and we always have your back.
What song do you just have to sing along with when you hear it?
JoRey: Bruno Mars, Grenade

Hayleigh: Preschool
Do you have any college credits or certifications earned during HS?
Hayleigh: I have earned 56 college credits during high school!
What are your next steps?
Hayleigh: I am going to work this summer and I think I will attend WSU.
Who is someone special that you would like to give a shoutout to?
Hayleigh: Mrs. Gatewood for putting up with JoRey and I during fourth hour.
What is your favorite school memory?
Hayleigh: Probably all of the times that JoRey has ran into doors.
What are you most excited for next?
Hayleigh: Starting my life and going places
What are your views on success?
Hayleigh: Living a happy life and being successful where you work.
Do you have any advice for those entering high school?
Hayleigh: Don’t get caught up in the drama
How strict would you say that your parents were during high school?
Hayleigh: Probably really strict during my freshman and sophomore year, but I don’t think they really care too much during my Junior year or Senior year.
Who Was Your Favorite Teacher?
Hayleigh: Probably Mrs. McGee in fourth grade. We just always had fun and went on field trips.

Hayleigh: Probably all of my Barbie dolls

Results from Eureka: Dante Henley 🥉in the 1600m & 3200m; Alberto Porru 5th in 100m; Conner Riley 4th in 1600m; Dario Saenz De Lacuasta 5th in 400m; Gus Shelton 🥇in Triple Jump & 5th in 300m hurdles. Girls took 4th in 4x800m.
Next up Caldwell 4/18!
