Today, our staff had the opportunity to reflect and rekindle our passion for teaching with Mr. John Calvert. John, a former school resource officer and now the director of the Safe and Secure Schools Unit for the Kansas Department of Education, oversees all 286 school districts in Kansas. His powerful message about fostering lasting relationships with every student and focusing on the positives, even in tough times, was truly inspiring. Thank you, John, for traveling from Topeka to Cedar Vale and sharing your invaluable insights with our staff!

A HUGE thank you to our presenters today, Chelsea Hofmeier and Kim Jones from Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. Our students learned about water safety, what do to if someone is struggling in the water (Reach, Throw, Row, Go!), and how to check if a life jacket fits properly. We also learned about camping safety, to be aware of what types of wild animals and insects are around campgrounds and in our area. We also learned about campfire safety and how to stay safe around campfires.
Thank you so much for taking time to come teach our students about water and fire safety!
